US and French Authorities Seize BreachForums Servers and Archives

The FBI and US Department of Justice, coordinating with French cybercrime units, executed a takedown of BreachForums in October 2025, seizing clearnet and dark web domains, disrupting backend servers and escrow payment systems, and taking database archives dating back to 2023.

Domains are replaced within days. Servers are rebuilt. Neither seizure is more than an inconvenience to a determined operator.

Escrow is different, because it is the mechanism that makes trade possible between parties who have every reason to defraud each other. A buyer will not pay first; a seller will not deliver first. Without a trusted intermediary, the market does not clear.

Removing the escrow function does not remove the sellers or the data. It removes the ability to transact at volume with strangers, which is a more durable disruption than taking a domain — and it is the same reasoning behind the infrastructure seizures at 26-0624.

Database archives going back to 2023 contain listings, transactions, private messages and account details for a substantial portion of a criminal market’s participants.

That is the material from which subsequent arrests are built. The takedown’s visible effect is a seized banner; its consequential effect will surface over the following years as cases, and this desk will not be able to attribute those to this action when they appear.
